 Love Yourself

Like

On sad rainy days

Visualise the rain

Evaporating

You can make the sun come

Out, by

Using the light inside you

Releasing the

Sadness that weighs you down

Exuberant, the day will become

Leaving you

Free

An Ice Age in the 5th Grade Classroom

Everyone else says it’s really cold

Sixteen degrees is just too bold!

“Bring a jacket!” He groaned

“But it’s freezing!” They moaned

But he ignored them, and wouldn’t fold

Finnigan and Felicity

Cream, white, caramel,

All colors he wears streaked on his brown fur coat

Wrapped tightly around him.

Approaching dangers carefully

Creeping around corners

To try and hide from the christmas tree

Fluffy and friendly,

Purring gently in your lap

Nuzzling his head to your hand

To tell you that you’re his now

He’s always quite clumsy

Crashing into chairs

Falling off his cat tree

That he can never quite get to the top of.

He’s nothing like his sister

Who is

Elegant and graceful

Hopping from platform to platform

And becoming the queen

Of her new cat tree castle

Looking down on her brother

As if he was simply her peasant

In her kitty-cat kingdom.

Sometimes though,

They’re like best friends

Racing each other through the house

To try and get to the food bowls first.

(She always wins.)

But even though she does,

She still makes sure

Her clumsy brother

Will get some food too.

Clover Leaves

Click-clacking needles

Crafting magic with her yarn

Snuggled on the couch

Numbers and fractions

Excitedly teaching me

A smile on his face

Cardboard, felt, and glue

Carefully crafting costumes

With make-believe fun

Precious things

I will take you to space

So we can run beneath the stars

I will take you to the moon

So I can tell you “This is ours”

We’ll dance on constellations

And slide down Saturn’s rings

And I promise that with you I’ll share

All of these precious things

Sketching Dreams

Skipping through the playground

Holding two pencils

I’ll grab my sketchbook

And together we’ll run to the benches

And sit down

To draw together.

We’ll draw characters

And costumes

Making up

Wild scenarios

And scribbling them down

To giggle at

Until classtime.

In my sketchbook

We can be anything

We can be

Characters from our favourite books

Or magical creatures

Or on any

Adventure

You can imagine.

You could think of our friendship

Almost like

A really good book

The beginning

When we doodle

As we wait for class to start

The middle

Eating lunch together

Wondering what to draw next

The end

As we walk down the hallway together

The best part

And the reason

The day is worth dreaming about

All

Over

Again
