Chapter 1

“SERAPHIM!” Silver yelled as they checked their phone. 

Their friend Angel’s sister popped her head round the door, “whatever it is, you don’t need to shout! Although, what is it?” Silver quickly showed her their phone screen and the odd way Angel had been messaging. “Ohhh, I see now why you shouted. That is really weird. And what on earth is that glitch on the last word? It feels familiar…” she mumbled the last part, though silver could still hear. 

“Familiar? From where?” they asked eagerly, “could it be some kind of clue?” Seraphim seemed to laugh a little before shaking her head. “Oh, no. It's from a long time ago, before Sakura even!”. 

Another girl seemed to suddenly appear at the door, her pale pink hair bouncing as she walked inside. “Did I just hear my name?” she said jokingly, before turning to Silver. “So, what’s up with the messages? I heard you saying they reminded you of something.” Seraphim looked surprised for a second, then a little annoyed. “How did you even hear that? Have you been spying again?” 

Sakura shook her head, pretending to be innocent. “Nuh-uh, I just have reeeaaallly good hearing!” her voice turned serious, “what did you mean when you said it reminded you of something Sera?” Silver watched their conversation confused. What could be so bad it made even Sakura sound serious? And why would Angel’s kidnapping have anything to do with Seraphim’s past? Actually, that was a stupid question. The two were siblings after all, they reminded themselves, it wouldn't be too weird for whatever was happening to be related to Seraphim in some way. 

“Could this familiar thing have something to do with whoever took Angel?” Silver asked, “please tell us whatever it is, we need to find her, it's been three days!” 

Seraphim looked at them, although Silver couldn’t tell if her expression was sadness or something else. “Fine, I'll explain,” she glared at Sakura, “not everything though, Silver’s still a kid and doesn’t need to hear it all.” 

“Yes,” Sakura replied begrudgingly. “But I still think he- sorry they- need to know everything!”

Silver hadn’t realised, but they now guessed that Sakura and Seraphim had been having this argument for a while. So they had somehow already known about the glitchy text? Maybe they had tried messaging Angel too? 

“Know everything about what? Why can’t I know everything? What happened?” they asked quickly before the two began to argue properly. 

“Alright, alright. I’ll explain. A long time ago, when we were all still at the school, odd posters started turning up around areas nearby from something called ‘the shattered dreamers society’. The posters warned about seeing your favourite game characters in real life. We - me, Kai, and Azul - saw, well, we saw Sakura! It turned out that a- person? known as Solarian had created a glitch in certain game codes that let the characters become real - and the first game this happened to was the game my friend Asumi created for me. Sakura, Kanna, Sara, and Ichika all spawned into this world from theirs.”

“Wait Sakura- You’re originally from- a game?!” Silver interrupted

“Yep! Now, let Sera finish the story.” 

“Okay, continuing,” Seraphim said, sounding slightly annoyed. “You know the term Yandere? Seeming cute but actually crazy and obsessive. That’s Ichika for you. She was horrible to other people, just for her own entertainment. And she did a lot of other terrible things too, all for attention. We thought she was gone…” Sakura chimed in, “but we never saw her leave…. So she might still be around…” 

“So… Ichika wanted attention from you? That would be a good motive to kidnap someone - If you were INSANE.” silver said as seraphim finished her story.

“yeah, well, pretty sure she is insane!” Sakura said cheerfully. “And I’ll bet 100 she kidnapped Angel!”

“We are not betting on whether or not Ichika kidnapped Angel.” Seraphim said, sounding serious, “we are GOING to make a plan TO RESCUE HER.”. 

“Yes, that!”

Chapter 2

“Okay you two! We’ve got some information now.” Seraphim said to Silver and Sakura as they sat in front of her. “Also- why were we talking on chat when we could have spoken in real life?” 

“Well obviously because the others needed to know too!” Sakura replied happily, “actually what was the info? My phone died” 

“Solar and Lunar haven’t seen Ichika, and Lunar seemed to think she was near us for some reason?”

“Well, it fits with our idea that it was Ichika who took Angel, doesn't it?” Silver piped up

“Good point! How are we going to work out where she is though?” Sakura answered, “I don’t have any tracking or finding skills, and from what I know neither of you have anything either.”

Silver had an idea. “We could… ask solar and lunar? You said they have special abilities most people don't, right?”

Seraphim looked at them oddly. “That’s right, but I don’t think we told you that… How did you-? Actually, it’s fine. It’s a good idea but…” She glanced at Sakura, “I think it would be best if we didn't involve them unless we really, really need them.”

Sakura nodded, just as Silver asked “why? Did something happen? Solar seemed to really hate Ichika. Is that why? He wouldn’t even acknowledge her as a person.”

Seraphim glanced at Sakura again. They were glancing at each other so much! An irritating riot of stupid looks, like they were having a separate conversation without Silver. “Yes. Something happened. But it is not something that you need to know about. I’d advise you not to ask.”

Silver grumpily agreed, but thought about ways they could ask secretly. They just wanted to know everything! Why was that so hard? “So, what’s our plan going to be then?” they asked, a note of their annoyance with the duo showing through their tone. 

Sakura thought a second, then looked at the phone, a new idea seeming to light in her eyes. “Wait… Since Ichika’s a glitch, do you think we could use some kind of tracker?” 

Seraphim gave a quick look over the phones. “I’d guess she’s too smart to leave a simple trail… But…. Sakura you know a bit about code don’t you? Do you think you could- how should I put this- edit the app slightly so we can see hidden things? Or even create a new app?”

Sakura’s light of ideas faded as a troubled look crossed her face “I could try but… I don’t know how to hack or edit code very well… Or at all heh. I guess I could work on a new app? It would take a while though.”

Silver wanted a chance to say something, so before seraphim could speak again they mentioned Solar and Lunar again. Loudly. “You said this Solar person created a glitch that can make game characters real. I get that there's history or something - but we don’t have a while for Sakura to try to make an app? Surely, surely we would benefit from their help more than we would lose anything!” 

Seraphim looked displeased by their second mention of the hacker. “We already said-”

“Wait Sera… They are right, even if you don’t want to think about it. And you can’t get annoyed at them for suggesting it again, they don’t know the full story!”

“Sakura’s right!” Silver said quickly, “you won’t explain what happened, and all I know is that this person's really good at coding!”

“Fine.” Seraphim hissed the word slightly. “Sakura, I’ll need you to ask them if we can visit.”

Chapter 3

“Wellll, we’ve got a meeting! Very soon too!” Sakura’s cheerful tone had returned to her voice as she did a spin around Silver and Seraphim. Seraphim was laughing at the messages, especially the last few. It seemed the thought of seeing old friends again had dissipated her bad mood. “They should be coming in around twenty minutes!” She continued spinning before stopping suddenly. “Oh woeeeee, catch me oh seraphim, I am so dizzy” She fell backwards jokingly, but even though she wouldn’t have been hurt Seraphim immediately leaned forward to catch her. ‘Oh! Thanks!” Sakura said happily as she got up. 

“Can you please stop messing around?” Seraphim snapped, “We do need to do this for a reason you know? An important reason”

The good mood seemed to vanish at the same speed it had appeared as they remembered why they needed to do this. “Sorry… I don’t really know how but I forgot…” Sakura replied sadly. 

Seraphim sighed. “I’m sorry for being annoyed. I kind of get it actually. Angel’s almost never here since you two only come back from school for long holidays. It seems kind of normal for her to not be around.”  The last part of what she said seemed to be directed at Silver, but it was such an unfamiliar idea they didn’t know what to say. Angel not being around? They guessed it was correct since they were at boarding school most of the time, but since they went together it just seemed odd. They decided to just not respond and hope a distraction would appear. And one did. 

RING (what does a doorbell sound like)

The doorbell rang, the sound very clear in the silence. “Oh! I think they’re here!” Sakura exclaimed, jumping up and running downstairs to the door. Silver could hear muffled speech from downstairs, then footsteps as Sakura led two other people up. Wait… were they people? At a first glance they seemed normal, but when you looked closer you could tell the wolfish ears and tails weren’t… they didn’t seem fake. 

“Seraphim” Silver whispered as the two newcomers sat down. “Are they like Sakura? Why are they weird?” 

Seraphim looked at Silver with a blank expression, then looked back at Solar and Lunar. “Ohhhhhh. Well, long story short, not technically human, not like Sakura either. It’s generally a pretty long story.”

“Please please tell me at least what they are? Please? I need to know if we’re going to work with them!” Silver said, trying to get even the littlest bit more information.

“Okay, but you can’t ask any more since I don’t know much more. Long story short, I believe they have something to do with a separate dimension. And immortals. Actually I think they themselves are immortal? Really I have no idea Lunar doesn’t like to elaborate on explanations unless he has to.”

Silver’s eyes went wide at the mention of immortals and they stared at the two now sitting on the sofa near them. “Wow…” their mind flickered with hundreds more questions, but they didn't ask any of them since Sakura had started talking. 

“Okay! Hi everyone! Silver, these are Solar and Lunar, who we told you about. Solar, Lunar, this is Silver, Angel’s best friend! They’re agender and use they/them pronouns!. As you already know I’m Sakura, she/her, and that’s Seraphim, also she/her. Oh, and Silver, Lunar’s the tall one and Solar’s short.”

“Hey!” The shorter one exclaimed. “I’m not always short! Uhhhm…. Anyways hi! I’m Solarian, or Solar for short. He/They and a whole bunch of neo and xenopronouns that no one ever uses.” He laughed awkwardly at saying the last part, then muttered “And that most people don’t accept exist…” 

Then the taller one—Lunar—spoke. “Hello! I’m Lunarian, or Lunar. He/him, I’m a simple person, although if you get it wrong I don’t mind! I hope we can help you find your friend!”

Silver smiled slightly at the realisation that they could actually save Angel. They could find out where she was!

“Ehh… Should I like… Take your phone now then?” Solar asked, again sounding kind of awkward. “The app will take a while whichever version I make…” They… didn’t seem to enjoy being around people much, and stuck very close to Lunar as Seraphim passed her phone over. He immediately opened the mapping app Seraphim had and appeared to fall into it, completely focused on his task. 

Lunar smiled happily as he watched his smaller friend. “Okay then! What’s our plan for once we’ve got the location? Will we continue to work with you or will you three go and find Angel on your own?”

“Nuh uh, You are absolutely staying to help us. You guys know more about Ichika than anyone else!” Sakura said energetically. “Also you’re our friends and we never get to see you.”

Lunar had seemed to stiffen at Ichika’s name, but he relaxed once he realised Solar hadn’t heard. “Ah, of course! Sorry about that, we are very busy in the Society! Also…” His voice lowered to a whisper, “I’m not sure we can help as much with knowledge about Ichika. I can, but Solar… It’s generally a bad idea to talk about her around him. Depending on what people are saying there can be some pretty violent reactions… such as possibly setting something in your lovely house on fire. I would really prefer it if we didn’t end this owing you a new table or… house?” He winced at the last words as Sakura’s eyes widened.

“Yes, yes we will definitely be careful haha…ha. I didn’t know it was so bad, sorry!” She replied, also in a quiet tone. Seraphim nodded. Silver stared at the smaller wolfy-person. A new… house? This tiny person might destroy their house at a wrong word? How? Then they remembered Seraphim’s mention of immortals. Did these two have some kind of special powers? They decided to watch Solar to see if anything happened when he was super focused. Maybe some sort of slip up? 

After just a short time of watching the dark haired person (and only vaguely listening to the conversation), something began to happen. A slight glow seemed to appear from behind Solar’s head and back. Over time it grew gradually brighter to become shapes. It looked like… some kind of wings? And a weird halo? Both glowing accessories seemed to be themed by the sun, with the main areas featuring large golden circles with smaller dots surrounding. When the glowing became too bright to ignore, Silver looked questioningly at Lunar. His light grey hair flicked over his shoulders as he turned to Solar, finally noticing the bright lights. His eyes widened and he nudged Solar lightly, then harder when he didn’t respond. As soon as the glowing little being acknowledged the other’s existence, Lunar began quickly whispering to Solar and the light dimmed, finally fading back to nothing. Silver, Seraphim, and Sakura all stared at the two with confused looks. Lunar looked up, taking in their expressions and sighed. “Sorry about that,” he said with a slightly worried smile, “If we must explain?... I’m really quite surprised you two have never seen that before!”

Seraphim nodded. “I thought I saw something odd once, but it was never like that. And yes, you must explain.” 

“Okay, first, what do you already know?”

“Yes! The things-you’ve-already-told-me category includes that you two work in a really weird dimension-”

“It’s not that weird but alright.”

“Humans go insane if they stay there too long. Pretty sure that counts as weird. Anyways, the other thing I know is you two work with immortals sometimes!”

Lunar winced and Solar shuffled in his seat. 

“Ah… well. The thing is..” Lunar paused, before saying the last part seemingly as fast as possible. “We do work with immortals but we also are immortal.”

Solar flinched back at those words, appearing to expect some kind of violent reaction from the three listening. 

“What?” Seraphim sounded annoyed, “Why did you never tell us this?”

“I thought you knew! I thought- nevermind.”

Seraphim glared at the two - immortals, and opened her mouth to speak again, before noticing their positions. Lunar was backed away slightly, and Solar was curled up very small, and almost hidden behind him. 

“Are you guys…okay?” 

“Yep, everything is good and fine! Sometimes people react badly is all!” Lunar said, returning to his original position with a smile. 

“Uhm… okay then? If you two don’t mind, do you think you could do anything that might be dangerous? Since there’s no chance of you dying and all? Maybe Solar could-?”

“I’ll do anything you need us to,” Lunar replied, “No need to put Solar in dangerous situations.”

“Thanks! Although why not Solar?”

Lunar just looked at Solar, and then away. “We just aren’t putting him in danger okay.” 

Sakura finally chimed in to the conversation, “Got it! Also, If the app is ready now, we should probably check where Angel is at!”
